Scholar Nomathemba Ndlovu receives UNSW Inspiring Student Award at UNSW

On 1 July, Australia Awards scholar Nomathemba Ndlovu was honoured as a joint winner of the University of New South Whales (UNSW Sydney) Inspiring Student Award. She received the award from Professor Julien Epps, Dean of Engineering, and The Hon. Dr Sarah Kaine, Chair of the Legislative Council Standing Committee on Social Issues in the Parliament of NSW.

Nomathemba is currently pursuing a Master of Engineering (Renewable Energy) at UNSW. Driven by a passion for sustainable energy solutions, she has made a significant impact through community initiatives across Africa, Asia, the Pacific, and Australia. Her work includes contributions to Engineers Without Borders projects in Timor-Leste, where she not only applied her engineering expertise but also mentored local women, promoting skills transfer and empowerment.

In her role as Technology Director at the Youth Climate Policy Centre, Nomathemba has also played a key part in shaping innovative policy recommendations focused on energy transition and youth-led climate action.

The UNSW Women in Engineering Alumni Awards are part of the Faculty of Engineering’s ongoing commitment to increasing the representation of women in the engineering profession. As the largest engineering faculty in Australia, UNSW continues to lead efforts to foster diversity and inclusion in STEM.
