Five Australia Awards scholars from Africa currently undertaking their Masters at universities across Australia will be sponsored by The Australian Government to present their research at the 36th AFSAAP conference to be held from 27-29th November at Murdoch University, Perth.
Kicking off the conference is a Postgraduate Workshop on Wednesday 27th November, which aims to provide a supportive environment for postgraduate students to present and receive feedback on their work. The five Awardees presenting are Alemken Birhanu, Frank Akampa, Abiodun Okunola, Lawrence G. Boakye and Hurryvansh (Girish) Aubeeluck.
Themed ‘African Renaissance and Australia’, in commemoration of the 50th year of celebration of the formation of the Organisation of African Unity, (now known as the African Union) the African Studies Association of Australasia and the Pacific (AFSAAP) Conference will attract academics and industry experts to reflect on Australia’s role in the African Renaissance.
For AFSAAP, the African Renaissance concept celebrates and examines a wide expanse of issues related to Africa’s capacity to re-define and rebuild the African continent through developing and controlling the continent’s rich social, economic and political resources. The Australia-focus is intended to steer a greater understanding of Australian historical links with African nations; a discussion of the ways in which these histories shape the present and the contexts through which Australia might credibly join with pan-African institutions to inspire and assert an African “reawakening”.
