Scholarship recipients of the prestigious Australia Awards attended departure briefings hosted by the Australia High Commission in Ghana. The recipients had one of the highest female representation by all Australian High Commissions and Australian Embassies for the current cohort of 156 scholars travelling to Australia in 2019.

The Australian High Commissioner, Mr Andrew Barnes, lauded the scholars for their commitment to leadership and contribution to sustainable development. Mr Barnes encouraged the scholars to make an “important contribution to national and regional development” once they have completed their scholarship.

Other guests present at the opening plenary included the Ghanaian Coordinating Authority, Mr Setor Adanuvor, the Assistant Director at the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat and staff from the Australian High Commission. On his part, Mr Setor commended the Australian government for its continued support through the Australia Awards. He also challenged the scholars to be ambassadors of their countries while in Australia.
